Unemployment/getting money back from landlord?

I recently got laid off from my job and also moved out of my apartment, I'm currently on unemployment and I should be getting my security and last months rent back which is 2500$, do I have to report this the unemployment as income and if so will I not get paid for a couple weeks as I only make about 500$ after taxes from unemployment

It's a security deposit with which you already paid for your apartment. It is not a source of income and you do not have to report it as such. Many renters recycle their security deposits back into their new apartments so it's not like getting a paycheck from a job. It's no different than having a friend pay back money you loaned them a year ago or finding a $100 bill that you forgot about in your sofa.

Do not report the return of your money from your prior landlord to the unemployment office, or on your tax return. There is no tax on this money and it does not change your qualification for unemployment benefits.

No, this is not 'income', it's money you had held for you by the landlord and which is returned if you left the apartment in good condition.

It's not payment you recieved for doing work, this was your own money set aside as security in case you damaged anything.

It's not income. It's your own money, like if you had put it in the bank and were taking it back.

No it's not income, you're just getting your own money back.

Unemployment benefits are taxable income, return of the security deposit isn't.

refund of rent and security deposit NOT income, you were taxed on both of them when you received the money to pay them
