What size diode(s do I need for a DC 48V 5A Max wire and or D.C. 12V 5A Max wire?
Would over rated diode work? What would be the most efficient and or cheapest? Or does it matter?

Diode has at least 10A 100V and mount it to a heat sink or aluminum case.
Wire size AWG#18 is good enough.
