Does Lutherans do fish on Fridays or is just Catholics?
I'm wondering if just a catholic thing. I planning on following the Christian calendar this year and I was wondering if it just the Catholics that have fish on Fridays or does Lutherans and episcopalian follow it. BTW I go to a non denominational church. I went to my brother's church who is catholic and they did fish and I enjoyed it.

Anybody who wants can have fish on Friday.
This began with the idea of fasting one day a week, and when it was obvious this wasn't going to work, they modified it to fish, which is a modified form of a fast, where you resolve not to eat meat, and fish is not considered a meat (don't get me started!).
Now, it's no longer a matter of fasting. fish can be tasty and filling. These Friday night dinners are nice dinners where people get together to celebrate their common Roman Catholic heritage. In this sense, nobody outside of the RCC can really do that, since they aren't Catholic.
Of course, anybody can eat fish on Friday (as I've done numerous times!)/

Catholics practice a a penitential act every Friday. This outside of Lent need not be abstaining from meat, but some other practice say, not drinking, not playing internet, or even an addition time of prayer or meditation.
It is still confusing after a few decades, eh. Some people think Catholics must eat fish on Fridays and some Catholics think Fridays outside of Lent no longer require acknowledgment that it was the day of the week Christ died for us.

Catholics and many other types of Christians eat fish on Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent. Not all year long.

I've been a Lutheran all my life, and yes, we eat fish on Fridays or any other day of the week :)
Having said that, I want to note that Christians are free to eat or drink whatever they wish. There are no Biblical or (as far as I know) any denominational restrictions Christians are required to observe :)

As far as I know that is strictly a Catholic thing, originating with Catholics and not adopted by any Protestants.
Chi girl's answer shows how little I know regarding it being only Catholic!
I point out that for Catholics in the U.S. the "no meat on Fridays" rule can be replaced by a penitential or charitable act. However, it's still the rule "no meat on Fridays...unless you replace that particular Friday observance with some other Friday observance".

The requirement for abstaining from meat on Fridays has been dropped, except for Lenten Fridays. A Catholic can do an act of charity instead and have meat on Friday.
