It might temporarily do that. Genetics determine how deep your voice will be. In the majority of boys as they mature during puberty, their vocal chords lengthen and their "voice box" (larynx) increases in size contributing to a deeper voice. For a few this happens to a lesser extent resulting in a higher than usual pitch to their voice.
