    Wow, it's been a long time! (And if you hadn't accidentally let this post as a Mathematics question, someone else might be offering an answer.)

    There's the order in which the books were written and published, and I personally would recommend they be read in that order, because the development of the author's concepts is important to the way the series unfolds.

    And then there's the "internal" chronology--the order in which the events in the various books take place. That's more difficult, so I'm going to refer you to an online source:

    At least one book (the early "The Sword of Aldones") was completely re-written, years later and from a more mature perspective ("Sharra's Exile").
