Whats a doomsday clock. Is the world ending or something 😣😥?

It's a subjective meter on how tense the world is.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is a periodical with a stylized clock on the front cover. The clock represents how close the governing board and the board of sponsors think we are to a global catastrophe.

Originally they were only concerned about all out nuclear war but these days they've broadened their mandate to include threats like climate change and advances in technology which could potentially cause a global catastrophe.

The clock was originally set to 7 minutes to midnight and reached its furthest point from midnight in 1991. Last time they chose to keep the clock at 3 minutes to midnight to show their disappointment at the failure of politicians to tackle climate change and terrorism. Now they have decided to edge the clock slightly more towards midnight bringing it to 2 1/2 minutes to midnight.

It is a reflection of how vulnerable the board thinks humanity is.

One note for history, this is the first time the clock has been adjusted by half a minute since its inception.
