Did anyone watch the drama about the 'kidnapping' of Shannon Matthews?

I didn't as my husband can't watch anything that involves child abuse of any description, but I am curious what reactions those on here have to the dramatisation of her faked abduction.

It was quite good and it captured life on a council estate - in particular Karen's BF was portrayed as the biggest moron, playing with an XBOX whilst the cops were rounds asking questions, his Mum was answering for him.

Karen was played by Theon's sister from Game Of Thrones (amazing transformation) - I'd thought the trailers for the show WERE archived footage of real events because she was so much like her.

The Police were portrayed extremely negatively, with the woman liaison officer portrayed as a nincompoop in my opinion - it's not surprising that complete imbeciles were able to hoodwink detectives for weeks. Only Sheridan Smith's friend/relative in the police was given any credibility as a normal human.

Yes, although it was all about the Sheridan Smith character, I think Gemma Whelan should get a tv award for her portrayal of the ghastly Karen Matthews.

Can't you watch it on another device on catch up?

I didn't watch it, as far as I am concerned it would be tantamount to watching the Jeremy Kyle show.

We don't agree to watch the same programmes, because apart from Horizon, we'd never agree. He's got in the habit of using subtitles, so I just carry on reading, real books or the Internet.

He is allowed to watch his le Carre box sets once a year with the sound on, it's a Christmas concession. 😉

  • I haven't seen it. We're like yourself, in that we agree on what we want to watch; because, vanishing to another room to watch TV would be a bit antisocial.

I have thought about watching it on catch up, but there's plenty to be getting on with.

No way would I have watched that 'drama'. I can't see any point in giving the woman more air-time directly or indirectly. It's not remotely my idea of entertainment.

So you only have the one TV and he controls what can and can't be watched on it? Interesting
