Action / works HAVE to go with belief...

(James 2:26) Indeed, just as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

(Matthew 7:22, 23) Many will say to me in that day: ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them: ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’

A lot of Catholics claim to believe yet sit there and do nothing...yet the scriptures on this are clear...the whole world need to be told what Jesus was trying to do...

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

(Matthew 28:19, 20) Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

    End will come...Conclusion ???

This system of ours is ending. But when?

(Matthew 24:36) “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.

Judaism has no dogma, no formal set of beliefs that one must hold to be a Jew. In Judaism, actions are far more important than beliefs, although there is certainly a place for belief within Judaism.

Unlike many other religions, Judaism does not focus much on abstract cosmological concepts. Although Jews have certainly considered the nature of G-d, man, the universe, life and the afterlife at great length, there is no mandated, official, definitive belief on these subjects, outside of the very general concepts discussed above. There is substantial room for personal opinion on all of these matters, because as was said before, Judaism is more concerned about actions than beliefs.

Judaism focuses on relationships: the relationship between G-d and mankind, between G-d and the Jewish people, between the Jewish people and the land of Israel, and between human beings. Our scriptures tell the story of the development of these relationships, from the time of creation, through the creation of the relationship between G-d and Abraham, to the creation of the relationship between G-d and the Jewish people, and forward. The scriptures also specify the mutual obligations created by these relationships, although various movements of Judaism disagree about the nature of these obligations. Some say they are absolute, unchanging laws from G-d (Orthodox); some say they are laws from G-d that change and evolve over time (Conservative); some say that they are guidelines that you can choose whether or not to follow (Reform, Reconstructionist).

It seems like you are asking if it is faith or works that are most important.

The answer is both, but in the proper order.

If one is depending on their actions to be justified before God, then they are attempting to earn their justification.

And there is no one who can be "good enough" before the Holiness of God.

But belief without action is meaningless belief. This is what the book of James in the New Testament is about.

The basic difference is how one understands their relationship with God.

Extrinsic religion attempts to earn justification. This is the basis of all religious philosophy. (Especially Islam.)

The Gospel of Christ is something different.

I am not saved by what I do, but because of accepting Christ - and what Christ has done /for me/.

And because I accept Christ, I am accepted by God.

And since I am accepted, I seek to do what God would have me do.

God does not save us because we are good.

God saves us and asks us to seek him in goodness.

    It goes like this.

Religion: I obey, therefore I am accepted.

    vs

The Gospel: I am accepted, therefore I seek to obey.

I would say that the relationship between the two is most important of all.

If you believe the right thing but you do the wrong thing, you're a hypocrite.

If you believe the wrong thing but you do the right thing, you're just lucky.

If you believe the wrong thing and you do the wrong thing, you're still wrong but at least you're consistent and have integrity. There's at least something of value there. You have control over yourself, you're just headed in the wrong direction.

If you believe the right thing and you do the right thing, you are a saint.
