Is this a touchdown pass or run?

If the quarterback throws over the middle to a receiver, who gets tackled by laterals the ball to another player (possibly a tight end) behind them and they score, how is it scored? I don't think it would be a rushing TD because the ball was in front of the line of scrimmage, but the same argument could be made for a pass.

I get this is a fairly common play (as far as trick plays go), but I never really paid attention to how they score it.

That is a touchdown pass. Example: The ball is on the 40 yard line in opponents territory. The quarterback throws a pass out into the flat caught by a receiver. He carries the ball to the 25 yard line, but just before being tackled he laterals to a running back who carries it across the goal line. The QB gets credit for a touchdown pass and 40 passing yards. The initial receiver gets credit for 15 yards received, and the running back gets credit for 25 passing yards received and is credited with the touchdown.
