Revelation 3:15-16 15 ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth".

Sounds pretty clear what the Lord thinks about hypocritical Christians.

Look at the terrible intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia and persecution by Christians towards others! There is no other religion, sect or cult that is so terrible!

This is not exactly what the Pope said. He said there can be goodness in atheists.

The Pope's opinion probably only matters if you are catholic.

Atheists have little need to be hypocritical, we have no one pressuring us to take a particular stand.

Take homosexuality as an example, if as an atheist I wanted to have sex with a man, I would figure that it would be no one's business but my own and would not need to hide it.

Christians, on the other hand, are probably no more likely to be or not be gay, but feel compelled to make anti-gay statements. So they end up like Ted Haggard, married and gay, having to slink around. A hypocrite.

That is not exactly what His Holiness said. He reminded us that the Church does not believe that all atheists are damned. Many people grow up in places where Christian teachings are forbidden and the gospel has never been heard, but there are people there who are very good and loving people. The Church does not believe that there is no room in Heaven for those who have been kept ignorant of the Good News of Christ.

It's in the catechism for which Pope John Paul II wrote an introduction, long before Francis was more than a Jesuit. It's not a new teaching for those who know the Church.

A person can live a more loving and virtuous life by reciting the rosary carefully daily.

I think that everyone should look to improve their relationship with Christ, and to not judge people and call them hypocrites and trust that God is working in their lives...
