Is there such a thing as "sidewalk etiquette"?
Such as, what side of the sidewalk to walk on. I frequently walk on the sidewalk in the city and experience so many people walking right into others walking the other direction or two lanes of people walking the same direction, shouldn't one "lane" be going one way? I use them like roads, we drive on the right so I walk on the right, oncoming people should walk on the [my] left.

I don't know where you live, but I have found that, in the U.S., most people will automatically walk on the right hand side of the sidewalk, regardless of which direction they are heading. You walk on the right-hand-side of the sidewalk; on-coming "traffic" is always to your left. Just like driving a car down the highway - keep to the right!

Since collisions between pedestrians are generally much less serious, and much easier to avoid, than collisions between vehicles, I don't believe imposing road rules on the sidewalk is necessary. It's enough that people watch where they're going, and neither dawdle nor rush.

There SHOULD be such a thing as sidewalk etiquette, but most people lack it.
I HATE it when people are walking in the middle of a crowded sidewalk, and then just stop in the middle of it. I want to smack those people in the face.
I also hate people who walk slow.

If two or more people are walking beside each other and they see somebody else coming toward them then they should form a single file line and let them pass rather than hod the side walk as if they own it. I've had that problem with rude people take the whole width of the side walk forcing me off and I know they see me but they're too damn conceded/selfish to share

It typically corresponds with the side of the road people drive on and differs by country. In America, we are supposed to walk on the right portion of a sidewalk.

On the right. Know why? Because traffic is on the street is on the right and would be unseen by people walking in the same direction, so the people closer to traffic should be facing it. Just in case.
