Buying a bmw 318i with a lien tittle?
I was thinking of buying a car with a lien tittle. Can I still get the tittle? The car is a 96 bmw 318i and is at a salvage yard. Car needs work but wanted as a project but I'm scared because it has a lien tittle. I was going to check carfax but wanted to ask on here before I do anything. And if carfax does come back saying it has a lien how can I check if there's a balance on it or should I even consider buying car. The car is only 1000$ that's why I liked it but if it's going to be more go get the tittle I don't think it would be worth it.

First you would need to pay off the lien then the person who's name is on the title gets the title, not you. Then you would need to pay the salvage yard there fees. I'd look for something else.

A lien means the car still has money owed on it. If you buy it it may be repossed. Even when buying from a junkyard you need to ensure you get clear title

You get a title with a signed off release on the lien. You get that by paying the lien. No other way.

Car fax ain't worth ^&*(. Look at the title or ask the DMV. If you can find the lien holder, you can pay them off and get a clear title.

You need to ask your dmv. i presume their is a procedure for you to get a clean title but I have never bought one and dealt with it. This is assuming you are buying it from the lien holder, like a tow yard or whatever. Its more complicated and can take longer. I assume a lot of those cars end up in junk yards.

There is a difference between a lien and a salvage title. A lien means money is owed to a bank. If the car was paid off because of accident then the salvage yard needs to title it in their name, then sell it to you.

You can't buy a car with lien on the title because the seller can't sell it until the lien is satisfied.
