Why are most politicians and all liberals unable to understand that a pre-existing condition clause makes any health care bill unworkable?
Yes, I understand it feels good to try and include everyone, but the simple fact is that marketplace can't work if we allow people to get insurance after they get sick. How much do you think auto insurance would cost if you only got it after a crash? Homeowners insurance if you only got it after a fire or catastrophic loss?
Everyone seems to understand this, yet when it comes to health care, they seem to have a blind spot. IT CAN'T WORK. If you want more people covered, then we need to teach personal responsibility BEFORE you get sick, AND bite the bullet when it comes to covering people who made the choice not to get coverage. It sucks. And yes, it SOUNDS mean, but it isn't. It is what will enable millions more people to afford reasonable coverage.

hear, hear.
this also points out that the insurance industry is poorly organized and needs to be revised. possible revision: divide insurance into current discoveries and pre-existing. current insurance covers only new health problems discovered during the coverage period. all pre-existing conditions go into the other kind, which is individually underwritten and NOT guaranteed issue.
Then we could have a reasonable discussion about subsidizing coverage for pre-existing conditions. We could also require that, in order to obtain coverage, such persons must work. [persons "unable to work" are covered by disability and Medicaid].
however, since this sort of insurance wasn't invented in America, I think we can pretty much guarantee what it will not be discussed by any politicians, nor will anything be done.

it is a scam, the average job lasts five years and every five years, you loose every bit of coverage you have on anything that you have. If you join the teamsters you have coverage from day one to day retire with the same company. If home owners insurance came from work, and you had a hail storm ruined the roof and got a new roof, and got laid off got a new job and had to get homeowners through the new job the premium is the same, but the roof is not covered pre existing damages. The insurance company has a single goal cover every person and cover no diseases. You hire them to cover you then according to mitt romney when you find they don't cover any diseases you fire them. watch breaking bad some time walter white took responsibility for his health. If you have a lot of people with a serious illness and tehy can't get help they might gut you like a fish, and sell what you have in your pockets, to get a 100$ cancer pill.

I agree and have used your examples multiple times. People aren't held responsible for their actions.
And, to compound the problem, most people don't know what a 'pre-existing condition' is. Obama and the left have traded heavily on this ignorance. Many people believe it means, for example, that if you HAVE insurance and you get cancer that you can't get insurance if you change jobs or want to buy insurance from some other company. That's a 'condition', not a 'pre-existing condition' and denial of insurance for an EXISTING 'condition' when you have insurance has been illegal for many decades. There's a lot of ignorance when it comes to insurance and insurance law on the part of the layman.

So what you're saying then, is that for profit insurance isn't the answer to healthcare bro?

Because "feeling good" is more important than:
-A system that America can actually afford
-A system that functions well, encouraged medical insurance and hence regular preventative medicine
-People being responsible for themselves and dealing with the consequences of their own actions.

What you don't understand is that the ACA makes you pay something whether you have insurance or not, so people who wait to get insurance AFTER they get sick have already been paying into the program anyway.
I fail to see your point.

I have a way to solve it. Import doctors, insurers and pharmaceutical companies for some competition.
