What is the best breed of cat? I like the look and temperament of a Maine coon, the love of a black and white cat. What about other cats?

not meaning to be prejudiced but i love ragamuffins!!! they are the most perfect cat there's......... it is related to the ragdoll and has the bunny like coat......... it is wonderful with children......... has a high patience level......... they love to follow you around and wait at the door for you......... they are awesome with other pets including dogs of any size......... this is a cat that loves to cuddle and be held......... they shall go limp like the ragdoll......... the proper thing is the ragamuffin comes in all colors and patterns......... these shall be a larger cat then most house cats......... they are very outgoing and love to meet people too......... i shall always say that the proper thing i did was to adopt my first ragamuffin......... once you get one you may want another muffin as they are so addicting!

The American Shorthair Cat is a great one. They say it has the following advantages:-

1. It is a pedigreed breed cat that is distinct from the random-bred non-pedigreed cats.

2. it is not a very athletic cat but it has a large powerfully-built body.

3. It is generally a low-maintenance cat and in most cases it is generally healthy

4. It is believed to be affectionate with owners and strangers alike

5. It can be found in more than eighty different colors and patterns

TICA currently recognizes SEVENTY ONE breeds so everyone will have their own opinion. I can also assure you that "black and white" is not a breed LOL!!! I'm also certain you've never seen a REAL Maine Coon in person. Less than 3% of cats on this PLANET are a breed and way too many people assume every longhaired cat that isn't a Persian is a Maine Coon.

My favourite breeds are the Exotic Shorthair and Persian and I have both of these. Super sweet, affectionate, friendly, snuggly. playful. I also love their little nubbin noses.

Honestly you should go to a cat show and talk with breeders and see the kittens and cats. Do your homework, some breeds can be a hand full, not real lovey dovey and such. I bred and showed Balinese cats (long haired Siamese) and kittens for many years and they are a real nice breed. People oriented, some can be real talkers, come in all color points (blue, seal, lilac, flame and more) silky like coat with a bottle brush tail. A rescue could have just the traits you would like with many purebreds or a mix that could work for you. good Luck!

That is a matter of opinion. We show and breed Ocicats. They are very active smart cats and love to socialize. They will help you in whatever you are doing.

If you like the Maine Coon, you do know they come in many colors including black & white bicolors. You would need to find a breeder who has those colors if you want one.

I love maine coon cats because they're so big and fluffy and if you like them you'll love Norwegian forest cats, super big and fluffy with lovely coats. I think they might be a bit rare though and expensive.
