Should we get rid of the House of Lords and replace it with an elected senate?

I think the hereditary peers one way and another did a good job of revising our legislation. What we now have is an arbitrary bunch of cronies of various prime ministers of the past waving flags of various political colours .Instead of confining themselves to the task of revision of bills referred to them by our elected representatives, they seem to be under the impression that they are there to correct any details they happen to disagree with. The Lib Dems elevated by Osborne seem to be out of proportion. Perhaps we should be thankful that there are no Scottish nationalist peers.

No. The UK is not a federal country, so on what basis would you elect it? Countries that have an elected Senate use it to represent the federal states, while the other house represents the people. But the UK has no states.

The House of Commons considered this at great length some years ago, voted on various options for a reformed Lords, and rejected all of them. Whatever you do, you'd end up with a duplicate of the Commons, and what's the point of that? The only real option is to do what New Zealand did nearly 70 years ago and just scrap it.
