You are right lets get rid of clocks and use sundial... It basically maximizes the daylight hours because as human wer use clocks to tell time and that means when we go to work we go by the clock time and. That means as the suns position changes as we orbit it we have to adjust our clocks to adjust the time we need to go to work... Daylight saving time was most helpful to farmers because of their long work days

The original idea behind daylight saving was to increase the productive time of workers in factories
during World War 1.
If you look at the older factories, they were designed to maximise use of natural light by having the sloping roof and those elevated windows. It meant resources expended could be lower and productivity of people would higher without forcing them to arise an hour earlier.
It may not seem like a big deal now, but during wartime every tiny expense saved or productivity increase, was absolutely essential.
Nowadays we utilise the same principle, but for more leisure time during daylight hours instead.

As someone who likes to see both "hands" of the clock point straight up when the sun is at its highest, here is the answer.

During the wintertime, DST is less advantageous to many people and businesses that need more light in the early morning because the sun rises later.
The main reason for daylight savings time is to make good use of daylight and save energy.

The whole idea is to cut back on energy usage. If more people are home during daylight, then fewer lights are turned on while they are home.

So School Children don't come home or go to school in the Dark.
I think it would have be easier to change the school hours during Winter.
Farmers don't care, they operate between sunrise and Sunset, the time of day 1 hour one way or another makes no difference. Cows can not tell time, but they do see the Sun.
