A trapezoid has median of length 6 and area 24. Find the length of the altitude .

    24/6 = 4 . . . length of altitude

    24/6 = 4.

    The "trick" is that if one of the two non-parallel sides were "flipped" to be parallel to the other one, the length of the median would stay the same, and you'd have a parallelogram whose length is 6 and area 24.

    median of length 6 --->(a+b)/2 = 6

    hence the altitude h = 4
