visit an audiologist, and have a hearing test! In the Cochlea there are a series of fine hairs, whichrespond to all frequencies of sound! however they can be damaged by sounds that are loud, and prolonged, and if any are damaged, you will have difficulty hearing sounds in certain frequencies! womens voices, in my experience, sounds are like waves that cover a great variety of frequencies, and you might miss certain words, or beginnings of words, which makes it difficult to guess the word they used? or some people talk at a faster clip than others, and your mind has trouble grasping the words, as they are coming too fast?

i'm unable to decipher what computerized phone calls are talking about, because of the rate of speach is too fast for my old head to grab on to! I am a Cochlear Transplant user, and it is as good as it gets, after you lose your natural hearing! hearing aids just amplify sounds!

It's because of the "frequency" (or the decibel level) of the speaker's voice. For most people with a small hearing problem. a "low-frequency" voice (i.e., a bass singer), is easier to understand than a "high-frequency" voice (i.e., a soprano singer). Get your hearing tested.

The ones you can't hear are Muslims.

I have the same problem. I have 2 answers. Answer #1. Some people do not speak clearly, mumble words softly, or do not project in my direction when speaking to me. Answer # 2. I may have my attention on something else at the time, I don't realize they are talking to me, or I don't really care what they are saying!

Timber of voice..... some voices are higher pitched, and perhaps you have nerves for that pitch but have lost them for lower-pitched voices.
