Simply: because neither mythology nor folklore is the same thing as either religion or spirituality.

It's sort of like asking why is science a different category from arts and humanities.

For some it isn't. And you are stupid for not SEEING this.

Myths and folklore have been proven false by objective science. The Bible, on the other hand, has been validated by objective science and so is in a different category.

I believe religion is a living myth as opposed to a past or dead myth. Also monotheistic religion is about revelation as much as it is mystery.

Folklore is often used as an explanation or talks poetically about morality and sometimes has no moral tale to tell. It is from oral tradition usually dating back centuries which differs from modern * urban legends * which are more than often scary tales.

Folklore also differs from religion which emphasises ritual, community and morality.

So I would say it deserves to be in a category of it's very own.

religion involves real people living real lives and worshiping a real god

Intelligent people devised the categories.

Because people believe in religion to be true - billions of people. No one believes in mythology and folklore to be real and thus it is a completely different category
