What is the max mileage should a used car have if I want to drive it 200 miles at a time?
So I m in college and I m buying my own used car soon. I want to make sure I ll be able to make the trip from Tampa to Jacksonville in it without any problems. I can t ask my parents to help me at all. Does anyone have any kind of idea on that max amount of mileage the car should have or the minimum year?

look on line -- the newer the better -- 80,000 miles on the dash, AND keep your foot out of the radiator --- the less abuse you do the car [[ any car ]] the longer it will last .... always drive under the speed for safety and better mileage .... If you are getting a bank loan your friendly loan officer may have a good repo that he will show you for a bargain [[ you will have to ask about that ]]

Usually the lower the better, but there is an exception to that rule. If the car has a high milage, the engine would have been overhauled. When you buy a car , ask to see the paperwork of what has been done to the vehicle. If you can see the vehicle has been regularly maintained you should be fine. Also before you hand over any cash make sure you can get clear title and ask if your own mechanic can check it over. This will cost you but may save you from buying a lemon. If the selle refuses to let your mechanic look at the car before you pay him, walk away

Maintenance history is key.
200 miles is a short run.
I worked with someone who drove 500 miles a day to and from work.
His car had 280000 miles on it
Another colleague doing similar mileage always drove cheap cars. Here in the UK sub £500 about $650.
He used to usually get 3 years our of a car.
If it failed catastrophically he simply bought another having used his breakdown service to get him home.
He called it bangernomics.
We have a vast number of cars in the £100 to £500 price range. ($150 to $650). These come with a valid UK vehicle test which is a very strict inspection of the cars structure and systems.

No such max mileage or minimum year. Every used car is different in its condition. Its current condition determines it future reliability, regardless of mileage. Of course, the newer the car, the fewer the miles, the less the risk of problems.

There is no max mileage but the lower & the newer the better. 200 miles at a time is a lot. I had a 94 Buick for 12 years until last year and I don't think I ever drove it 200 miles at once. I probably would have rented a car if I needed to go that far.
Much depends on your budget.
My newer car cost me nearly $9000 and Id trust it to go 400+ miles.
There are lots of cars that can go 200 miles but the older & higher miles, the more likely you might be stranded on the side of the road.
About 15-20 years ago, I had a girlfriend who lived 100 miles away. I was a low end dealer at the time and I drove a number of different cheap cars to see her.
I bought cars at an auction about 50 miles away and drove them home. Stuff in the $1500-2200 range wholesale.

Mileage has very little to do with the reliability of a vehicle. Obviously condition is MUCH more important.

I have 167,000 miles and I would have no qualms about driving to Jacksonville from Laramie, Wyoming.

There is no maximum or minimum. Modern vehicles a generally extremely reliable and can rack up tens of thousands of miles. The key is maintenance. As long as the vehicle is fully and properly serviced and maintained it can easily last 200k miles or more.

A trip of 200 miles is nothing to a car. Cars don't care how far they are driven, just maintain them according to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule and a vehicle should last a long time. Buying a used vehicle is risky, because you don't really know how it was taken care of by the previous owner(s).
