A cube is circumscribed about a sphere. The sides of the cube have length 18 in. What is the diameter of the sphere ?

    Draw a diagram of it. You'll see the diameter is equal to the side length. Think of a square circumscribed about a circle.

    The sphere touches all 6 faces of the cube. Think of it like a box where the sphere fits snuggly inside of the cube. The diameter of the sphere is therefore the same as the length of the edge of the cube.
