In the John Carpenter movie "The Thing" (not the prequel), there is a sign at the American base that says it is outpost 31.?

When they are calling for help on the radio, they use a different outpost number. What's the deal with that?

    Just a mistake, a similar mistake occurred in John Carpenter's earlier film "Assault on Precinct 13", which was so named despite the titular precinct actually being identified as "Precinct 9, Division 13" in dialogue.
