Non-Prescription Hypoallergenic Dry Cat Food?
My cat Luna has a protein allergy, so she tends to vomit regularly for any dry food we've tried to give her. We just got a prescription for science diet, but WOW is it expensive. 3 times as much as any other food we've given her. I love her so I'll get it if it's our only option, but are there really no non-prescription dry cat foods we can get her instead?

And what is your cat allergic to? Some cats are sensitive to the corn and preservatives and colors in foods, other cats are sensitive to a particular protein. Step one is to determine just what ingredient your cat needs to do without (the specific protein), and then get a CANNED food from the pet store that doesn't contain it. Eliminating most/all grains and carbs is generally enough for many cats - and that means ditching all dry. Some cats are sensitive to chicken, but that means feeding a food with no chicken in it and it also means carefully reading labels - a food labeled fish may also contain chicken. Many brands now have limited ingredient foods - Blue Buffalo Basics is one, Natural Balance is another. Find out from the vet just what the prescription food is meant to do - and then work around that.

Your vet might have a sheet on making your own "prescription" food. Otherwise, check with other vets in your area to see if they might have it. Your next option would be to search the Internet for making "prescription" type diets.

Wow. I don't know where to start. Yeah I do. Your cat does not have an allergy to protein. If she did, she would die cause she is an obligate carnivore and needs meat protein to survive. Also there is nothing good in or about and there is nothing that would need a prescription in any prescription food.----Read the ingredients (you need a new vet)
