Paul's thorn in the flesh stayed with him until he was executed in Rome. His thorn-in-the-flesh was with him from about 35 AD to about 66 AD. There are hints in Acts about what it may have been.

Identifying that messenger as a devil is quite an assumption, quite a leap.
I would contend that the passage is not describing a devil at all.
