Is this weird?
So I am 20 years old. College student and living at home for the summer. I am on my parents health insurance plan.
I am seeing my dermatologist again because of my acne problems (been a huge issue since high school). No medication is really working.
My mom and I are both frustrated, understandably.
Is it weird that she comes with me into the dermatologists office? I don't have to get undressed or anything.
But she wants to ask questions (as we pretty much see a new doctor each time) and we both want a solution.
They keep trying to push accurate but I don't want to do it.
So is it weird she comes in the office with me? I go to all other appointments on my own. It's just this specific issue we are both curious about and have to see new doctors all the time.

If she isn't going to other doctor appointments with you, then no, it's not weird. The reason is because, I think she's just concerned about your acne. If I had a child that had constant acne and nothing was working, I'd probably want to make sure all the right questions are being asked and answered, and that my child doesn't misunderstand a certain instruction. I definitely would NOT go to all of my child's doctor appointments, especially after the age of 18; because that's a bit overbearing and embarrassing for the patient.
I guess the reason she chooses to go with you to the dermatologist, and not the other doctors, is because it's been a big issue for you for quite some time. I think she's just feeling a bit frustrated that you are having to deal with something that seems to have no solution, and she's just wanting answers. If it makes you uncomfortable for her to go with you, you have every right to tell her and go by yourself. But no, I do not think it is weird. She just cares.
Also, don't let your doctor pressure you into taking medication. It is your body and you have the right to say no. I used to have a bit of acne back in high school. It wasn't severe; just small bumps along the hair line. Proactive actually worked for me. It actually worked instantly. Literally... After 2-3 uses, my acne was gone and I didn't need the stuff anymore; so I let it get old in my sink's cabinet and eventually threw it away, lol.
Have you tried using tea tree oil soap? I'm using it right now (since I just had a random acne break out for the first time since high school and I'm 25). It has been helping a lot. It kinda burns my acne a bit, but my guess is that it's because I'd been picking at my acne and it was raw.
