joint custody and different school districts?

I am moving out of my son's current school district..my son's dad and I have joint custody and I have placement with dad having visitation per court doc.

Can I keep my son in his current school district and transport him without paying tuition? Where I would be working would make more sense rather than change schools.. would this give dad more leverage if he wanted to go get placement?

Update:

we are in NY state

No, of course not. You move out of the district, he no longer is eligible to go to school there.

It really depends on the school itself. Some are very picky and require you to give them copies of the custody order and keep careful track of such things.
