How to help foot and knee pain?

My girlfriend works for 8 hours, then is off for 2 hours (not including driving time) where she can rest. Then she has to go to school for 5 hours where she stands most of the time. So she is essentially on her feet for 12 ish hours.

She has been having foot and knee pain and I was wondering if there is anything anyone can think of to help lessen her pain?

All serious answers are very appreciated.

Thanks.

Update:

Right, forgot to mention, she has this thing where she basically doesnt have arches in her feet. So she wears inserts in her shoes for that.

Orthotic insoles would help a lot.

I know of several natural remedies. Blue Emu oil comes to mind as one. Please send me a note if you want to know about some more. If I tell you specifics in my answer it gets zapped for trying to sell you something.

She should see her doctor but meantime take painkillers - I am 60 years old and on my feet from 5.30am until 8pm when I get home from work and I have arthritis in the knee and I take painkillers
