For a married man to be ordained a Latin rite Catholic priest is it necessary that his wife agree?

Not reluctantly either, but firmly with no reservations.

As far as I know, that is only permitted in the case of an married Anglican priest who converts to Catholicism.

    In other words:

    - someone who is already married

    - AND who is already an ordained priest

and so (obviously, being already an ordained priest) the wife's permission would not be required.

This is something new working within catholicism. I don't know how it will eventually play out-

But currently the Vatican is allowing married men to become priest. But they still will not allow priest to marry.

I suspect this will eventually explode and the priesthood in the catholic church will change forever.

As far as you are concerned.... you need to talk to someone within your church.... do not get advice from yahoo.

That only happens if he was already an Anglican or Episcopal priest. If he is smart, he'll get his wife's permission before making such a decision. He will definitely have to have it.

Deacons, if married, do have to have their wife's permission to become a deacon. If she dies, he cannot remarry.
