Saw baby mouse in basement by itself, Mouse problem?

I went downstairs to my basement and saw a baby or very young mouse (had fur and could see I think) scurrying out in the open.

It didn't run away as soon as I saw it like most mice and rats usually do.

Not only that but I was also able to catch up to it and trap it in a heavy glass cup and I killed + disposed of it.

Is this a sign of a bigger mouse problem (indoor nests?) or did this young mouse just happen to stumble into basement and likely from an outside nest?

Update:

I should say that when I was trying to trap it in the glass cup, it seemed like it was trying to run away but it wasn't moving very fast, not sure if it was weak, injured, or just wasn't aware.

Update 2:

I should also add that I don't know if it left any feces (I didn't see any near it or in the open)

Trap inside and poison outside, keep the bait outside year around. Special plastic bait containers are avalable from farm stores.
