Question about why fuel gauge wont read properly?
I know my main issue is how my connection is setup, I installed a cutoff switch in the interior of my 09 crown victoria which runs to the negative terminal of the battery. So when the negative terminal is directly connected without the cutoff switch my fuel gauge reads properly, but when using my cut off switch it causes everything on the dash to read properly except for the fuel gauge.
So my main question, does the fuel gauge need a certain amount of power when the vehicle is started to function properly? After my car is fully started the battery reads around 14.5 volts. Also sometimes when driving the fuel gauge will correct itself and display greater than empty.

This is very odd. You obviously have a power drain and am fixing it this way. I'm thinking the cut off set up is dropping some voltage.
