Sell and swap, Craigslist etc are 'as is, where is', 'let the buyer beware' venues. The buyer was a fool for not insisting that he/she see the unit working before handing over payment.
That said, if you KNEW the unit did not work, you committed fraud - even though proving it is near-impossible. If you can truthfully say that the unit was working the last time you used it, then it is up to the buyer to check it out or have it checked out, and not buy until they are satisfied.

Did you represent it as working? Then if it doesn't work they have a case. They deserve a return/refund.

They bought it without any reassurances or warenty so unless your selling it as a buisness they can't do anything as long as it was working when you gave it to them and even if it wasn't they couldnt prove it in court
