Would eating insects still conform to vegetarian/vegan lifestyle?
Not a joke, I'm genuinely wondering this. Many cultures around the world eat insects as part of their diet and they are in fact nutritious and a good protein source, as well as being quite tasty. Bugs aren't animals so would it still be vegan/vegetarian to eat them?

I think you're very brave posting such a stupid question and not being "anonymous".
Insects are definitely animals and vegetarians don't eat animals.

According to a paper published by the University of Kentucky, all living things are classified into two groups: Animals or Plants*.
Since insects do not fall in the "plant" kingdom, they are therefore considered animals (part of the subgroup Phylum Arthropoda). So if you are vegan or vegetarian, they would not be on your menu.

Actually bugs are classified as animals, so on a vegan diet, they would not be part of the diet, and by products of the "bugs" and not the bugs themselves, would be ok for vegetarian, as long as the by product was not a result of grinding or mashing the bug into what then becomes food or an ingredient.
So I suppose no protein bars or flour made of ground crickets would be on the menu at any vegetarian or vegan restaurants any time soon, at least until bugs are reclassified a plants.

Oh, the irony of a vegan eating bugs. How hypocritical of you to even eat an animal by going against your claims that you've made a vow not to eat meat and animals anymore? Eating a bug definitely makes you a hypocrite and that you'd be contradicting your own claims. I really don't even think you believe in the nonsense you spew out.

Insects, their eggs, their honey, etc. are not vegan. Some vegetarians allow themselves honey, but strict vegans, no.
