Mitch McConnell says the Medicaid cuts are too far in the future and will never happen. So why is the GOP pushing this bill?

The bill is extremely unpopular, now we find out McConnell says it won't even actually happen if passed. So help me understand, why are they doing this?

They have majorities in both houses and the presidency, and they've been moaning about Obamacare for years.

If they don't manage to get some sort of bill through, the GOP is going to look utterly useless and gutless.

That's what this is about. Appearing like they have won something.

It's because all that's being done is a budget reconciliation instead of an ACTUAL budget which hasn't been passed since Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were in charge of the Congress in 2008. By the way, just FYI, NO budget or spending is continued or imposed on ANY future Congress by law. So anything proposed beyond the term of the PRESENT Congress is not enforceable. That's how the funding for the border wall got eliminated after Bush went out of office. The law to build it is still there and was APPROVED by both Dems and Republicans. Pelosi and her gang refused to fund it after she got in control.

To make things work easier for some folks to understand we could just get out of the whole government healthcare business. I'd be cool with the idea.

They aren't pushing the bill. Obamacare was "extremely unpopular" but Pelosi wouldn't even let legislators read it before voting on it.

    Mitch McConnell is a liar.

The GOP have been trying to do Medicaid reform since the 60s. And they're using the healthcare bill to do just that.

They want to push the cuts off until after the midterm elections. Don't be fooled.

It's window dressing for their base, who apparently are too stupid to know fact from fiction, but the Republican know how stupid that base is and is willing to throw them a bone.

They're pushing the wealthcare bill because they believe their mandate is to undo everything Obama did, whether it's good or bad.
