What kind of running shoes do you recommend?
I hate wearing shoes as it is. It literally hurts. Also, if too much of my foot is covered, I overheat and its just not pretty. I have thought about running barefoot, but the ground is what people spit on, their dogs pee and poop on it as well as birds and oil and grease...yuck! So I am looking for a shoe or sandal that I can run in and it not cause me pain or to overheat. Thank You!

You might be interested in buying some "minimalist shoes". Xero, Vibram, Newton and Merrel are some of the brands to look for. Xero is a small company but you can order their shoes online. the others are found in running shoe stores every where.
You should go to a good running store, even if you have to drive a while to get there. You can use the Runner’s World Shoe Store Finder to help you find a nearby store.

Some running stores have experts with whom you can make an appointment. They measure your foot to determine it’s size, your arch, and if you over-pronate or not. They take a video of you running barefoot on a treadmill to examine your stride. And they have you stand on a pressure plate to measure both your arch and determine if you have any hot points. They ask you about your running and needs to determine which particular shoes might best meet your needs. Then they let you try them all on and run with them on their treadmills. Usually they have a decent return policy, too.
After you have worn your shoes for a few months, if you still like them a lot then go online and look a deal for the same shoe. If you’re not in love with the shoe – then go back to the store (or a different store) and try again. With so many shoes, it’s not a shoe –in to get it right on the first try.
Unfortunately this will be a recurring routine. You’ll find that every couple of years your favorite shoe will be discontinued.
Oh, and don’t make a selection based on color, brand or price. As far as running shoes go – those are very unimportant.
Keep track of your running and buy new shoes every 400 miles or when they look worn out.

Go to a running store and get fitted for exactly what you want. They will take the time to find a shoe that fits YOUR foot and offers what you want. They may cost a bit more but once you know what works for you, you can go to another store (instead of a specialty running store) and buy them for less $$.
