Why did the USA get rid of slavery when God wants good people to have slaves?

The US has laws that restrict driving such as speed limits and stop signs. So does that mean that the US wants good people to drive?

Nowhere does God say that he wants anyone to own slaves, but he did have regulations regarding slaves for the the ancient Israelites under their covenant with him and its associated theocracy.

As far as the new covenant that Christians are under, read the book of Philemon and see if you still think God desires slave ownership.

God hates slavery. Remember he freed the Israelites from the Egyptians.

God didn't WANT people to be slaves. He allowed it. Those slaves were treated well, as another member of the family. They didn't work on the Sabbath. They were paid. They had medical care. They could marry and have children. Every 7 yrs they were allowed to stay or leave. Many stayed as slaves (workers) because they were taken care of properly. The African slaves that were forced into it by Europeans in America weren't treated well and that's not what God was talking about.
