Do you serve your guests cheap grape juice after you gave them really nice grape juice?

His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]

7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

Obviously. It would be a waste of good wine to serve it to drunk people. You start with the good stuff because it tastes good. Then when people are drunk, they're not drinking for flavor anymore, they are now drinking to continue being drunk. So why waste the good stuff on that?

    That's how my church was.

We'd get the really nice Welsh's grape juice for communion and then really watered down grape Tang after the service. We called it 'church juice'.

Of course, alcohol was of the Devil and we were never to partake.

Im glad I left that church, and religion as well. If you can't even follow your own bullsh!t... you have no business telling others what to do.

If I had any guests I might not serve them grape juice. And I am not so canny as those bible dudes.

The master was clearly drunk enough that the tactic worked on him. He was probably getting dehydrated from the booze and straight water would have even tasted better to him.
