What is the problem with the refrigerator if the bottom freezer is not freezing?
The bottom freezer of a 5yr old kenmore is not freezing and the top refrigerator compartment is not cold. The cooling panel at the inner back of the bottom freezer is not cold or frosted over. The fan in the bottom freezer still works and the digital temperature control panel still responds. The compressor still hums, but ssometimes it makes this sharp blade scraping nose when it stops its humming cycle. What could be the issue with it?

sounds like the compressor is not actually starting.the clicking you hear is an overload device cutting out the voltage to the compressor. Probably a problem with the start relay at the compressor. If your a doityourselfer you could get a start relay assembly just google 3n1 start relay.very easy to install

Try cleaning out the coils instead of calling a repair person .Many times dust and lint accumulate over the coils .When the coils get blocked that fan you hear cant blow air over the clogged coils The coils being free and clear is critical to cooling the inside of the fridge Try vacuuming out the coils GENTLY before you call a repair company Many times thats what kills fridges, OVERHEATING of the compressor clean it out then see what happens
