    No banning guns wouldnt work.

    No.

There is a differnce between a (small) gun and semi-automatic rifle - you don't need a rifle for self-defense.

We like guns so the government doesn't take away our rights. Even if the entire US military fought on the government's side, you'd have around 100 million people with guns blending into the rest of the population. It would be an absolute nightmare for the government. Sure, we would get slaughtered in a straight up shooting match, but that's why you use guerilla warfare.

If you could vaporise all 300 million guns then yes.

In the real world a total ban is unrealistic. Guns should be much more heavily regulated though. It'd at least be a step in the right direction.

People should have the legal option for a shotgun to defend against home invasion. Farmers/ranchers may need a rifle to defend against pests that threaten their livelihood etc.

I'm for tighter regulations which increase safety as a means to save lives.

Get rid of the high capacity magazine weapons of war which were designed for one purpose ... kill as many people as possible in the shortest time, for example.

When ever someone suggests sensible gun safety measures as a means to address America's overwhelming gun violence problem, the 'gun nut' righties hear, repeal the 2nd amendment. There is no cure for a learning disorder this severe.

Australia did something about the gun violent problem it no longer has. The blueprint is already at our disposal.

There is a big difference between a hunting rifle and an assault rifle designed specifically for killing people.

There are many quality semi-automatic hunting rifles that can not be converted to machine guns. They have a legitimate use and place in out door sports.

Rifles and pistols designed for no purpose other than killing people should be banned.

The funny thing about this discussion is that Americans have ALWAYS had guns. Heck, some schools used to teach shooting. Kids had them in their trucks so they could go hunting after school. America doesn't have a gun problem... It has a cultural problem where it has become OK to resolve all our problems with violence... and not just gun violence. We also have a problem with the overuse of medications that alter moods without regard to the side effects it might have on their actions.

I agree we don't need semi automatic rifles. But the 2nd amendment was designed to give citizens a chance to fight back against a hostile government take over (which wouldn't really work these days considering the weaponry available to police or military personnel) and to help fight foreign invasion. Just because this hasn't happened does NOT mean it won't. Guns should only be used for self defense or for game hunting and the vast majority of gun owners use them for this purpose.

No. If police officers actually do their job instead writing stupid speeding tickets and shooting unarmed people we could stop one of these bastards.
