Many folks still use Boats to navigate Planet Earth across the Oceans v. driving a Car down I-95.
The curvature of the Earth makes a difference across Oceans v. driving down I-95 200 miles.

A nautical mile corresponds to one degree of latitude, and there are 360 such degrees of latitude.
