A website called bestvalueschools.com ranks Wichita State as #5, out of the 30 schools that it ranks. The only ones beating it in that assessment are Georgia Tech, VPI, Purdue, and RPI. Western Michigan does not make this particular list. The big asset that Wichita State has going for it is that Airbus and Boeing and Cessna and Learjet have facilities right in the neighborhood.

The other responder's impression of Western Michigan may well be correct, but it's not likely that the "best value" crowd ignored WMU for reasons of expense -- its out-of-state tuition is actually higher than that at Wichita State.

I went to Western. Its aerospace engineering program is extremely good, one of the best, most highly reputed programs at the university. It is nationally renowned. Part of the reason for that is practical application as WMU also has a highly lauded aviation program. It's one of the best schools for learning to not just engineer stuff to fly but also actually build it and fly it. By the way, my best friend's dad, Dr. Atkins, was a professor in the aerospace engineering program, but he has since retired.

I don't know anything about Wichita State's program, but it would have to be beyond extraordinary to be better than Western's.
