How to recover data from an Ipod classic 160gb 7th generation(late 2009)?

My Ipod's power port is broken... I have taken the thing apart.... I removed the Hard Drive... I have tried connecting it to a 50pin to USB adapter to my computer...

My Computer says that I need to format the thing to be able to use it.... I obviously can't do that if I want the data from it.... I have a LOT of music and audiobooks on the thing that I 'really' don't want to lose....

Hope someone can solve this one!!!!

Update:

@gary,

This ipod is an excellent product!!!! Plus I have a tonne of stuff on it!!!!

Update 2:

SSP Bowl Dude:

What if I use a product called 'CopyTrans'.... I was recommended to try it on a different computer with a different operating system using that particular software....

    Need to use a Mac or Linux computer.

    IPods use hexadecimal file names so you won't be able to identify a file by name.

    The ONLY way to transfer songs and podcasts is to use iTunes, so you should have your media on your computer or you can re-download it from iTunes.
