My parents took away my computer. Are they being unreasonable?

Well technically my dad took it away. And yes I did buy it with my own money (took me like a year to save up). Long story short, they took it because my grades weren’t good enough I’m 15 almost 16 btw. I have never refused to do my homework, but I am in a private school with bad homework habits, so you sorta have more responsibility over what homework you do. Well nevertheless, I am not addicted to my computer in any way, I almost don’t even play video games on it anymore, I basically just watch YouTube and work on a small business I am trying to start. He said the reason for him taking it away was because I have to focuse more on school etc... but I think it was because we argued and he didn’t like me having a very insignificant difference of opinion then him, even though I told him I already know I have to get better grades etc. But it doesn’t make any sense because the less I am at my computer, the more I am on my phone and he hasn’t even said anything about me being to much on my phone, even though that’s a lot of what I do in my spare time, except going to the gym and some other sport.

Sorry you're getting answers from people who read titles but not questions!

There's 2 separate questions here. Your parents have every right to take your computer, even if you bought it. If they never explained this, it's not your fault for not knowing it, though. Minors can't own property, but more importantly, your parents pay for the wifi or internet access, and they even pay for the electricity to run it. Without this, your comp is a pile of metal and plastic.

On why they took this away and not your phone, it could be anything. My guess is they aren't happy with the time you spend on it, but when you take a phone, you're taking away your kid's ability to contact you in an emergency. Or vice versa. Now that parents have gotten used to having this, it might be scary to give it up.

You school is trying to prepare you for the world of work.

There if you want a decent job you have to manage your time and take responsibility for your work.

You can't own it. You are a child so you can't own any property. By law. Since you refused to do your home work and spend far, far too much time on the computer they took it

no they want you to succeed. you know you need to do better but don't seem to be taking the initiative to do so on your own. Keep screwing off and the phone will go next.

It seems to me like a computer is a strong tool for dong homework or just learning in general so that it is the wrong way of trying to encourage you or pressure to get better grades. I don't know what you mean by bad homework lots or in some way unfair? IN any case I am assuming since you own it that he will return the computer when your grades get better which seems like the plan of action you should take because although he might have found a better way to deal with your lower grades he is still the parent and has the right to control what you do. I am not certain about the legal aspects of taking something that you own but he might have that right also though he is keeping you from using it and I assume he has no intention of not returning it.
