Because, unlike Trump people, they want to be open and above board and the contribution would bring that into question.

When govt officials have previous experience with a case and assume a higher position they will usually recuse themselves.
Not just in the executive branch, either. Judges who worked a case in the past as an attorney or lower court judge will recuse themselves as well.
