What is the reason for the Season? Real reason, as we don't know when Jesus was born so Jesus is NOT the reason for the season.?

The correct answer has two steps. Yes there is a correct answer.

Update:

There really is simple straightforward answer to the first step. The second step needs a knowledge of early Christian history, though I suppose that step is not a certain as the first.

Update 2:

There REALLY is an answer. It has nothing to do with the reality or unreality of the Christian religion.

Basically I want to see just how few or many can manage to even get the correct first step.

This is not a debate about whether there is a god or not. No one really knows the answer to that. BUT you CAN know the answer to the question. I will give this at least a week unless someone manages the answer.

Update 3:

The correct answer will need TWO steps.

Update 4:

Two people got half the question perfectly right. Even used the term I use.

Axial tilt is the reason for the season.

The tilted axis of earth's rotation, silly.

Only I am not silly enough to use silly towards the person with the right answer.

This is what I actually use myself.

The tilt of the Earth's axis is the reason for the season.

But no one got the second half. Some sorta got the idea but not the specific answer.

Most people did not even try to give a correct answer.

Update 5:

Since SBR32277 got this, which is correct, even if not the actual cause of the season.

"The original reason for the season was in fact the season.'

And he also got this which is about halfway there:

"At the time, Dec 22 was the shortest day and it took another 3 days to visibly notice the longer day. Of course christianity took this celebration of the sun and replaced it with their Son"

I will give him the best answer.

Update 6:

The CORRECT or at least what I think is the correct answer is

The tilt of the Earth's axis is the reason for the season.

That date was used because it was the date of Constantine's FAVORITE god, Sol Invictus. Yes he still worshipped Sol Invictus after making Christianity the official religion.

And he was Emperor so he got what he wanted. Despite the claim that he was Christian, he still believed in other gods. Most Romans believed that ALL gods were real.

Christmas is cultural. They try to fold in religion, but there is no truth to it. People can sense this, so their intellect fights for what they want to believe by getting more pushy, saying things like this.

What ( extent of ) is the "REASON for the SEASON" ..

the 2nd part of the question should be "WHO'S" reason for the season....that was not indicated

. so the issue to investigate is WHO Originally initiated the OBSERVANCE , and DIRECTIVE ...the answer would be "RELIGION" since RELIGION ( short definition ) is a cultural system of DIRECTED behaviors and PRACTICES world view text of societal organization ..

. When was the observance of "Christmas" instituted and by whom then one could examine the possible INTENT MOTIVE & AGENDA

. The 2nd Issue WHO or WHAT DIRECTS what TODAY is termed "Christmas or the SEASON..

.that answer is easy In the USA it was chosen as one more PAID HOLIDAY for FEDERAL employees as part of their work contract by Congress but not until 1870 . prior to that it was not recognized as a NATIONAL holiday but was a holiday in various states December 25 th and religious oriented

today actually RETAILERS , the ECONOMY companies count on those END of year Sales to be in the BLACK

December 25 th was when the ROMANS celebrated the winter SOLSTICE ( Jesus) Messiah is identified with the SUN based on the OT additionally in the verse the date is 9 months from the "ANNUNCIATION"( announcement by the angel to Mary ) according to Luke 1 : 26 occurred in the 6TH month of Elisabeth's pregnancy ( mother of john the baptist ) which by church estimates was March 25 th

In 200 AD Clement of Alexandra ( christian theologian ) wrote " there are those who have determined not only the YEAR of our Lords birth but the DAY, and they say it took place in the 28th YEAR of Augustus and in the 25 th DAY of PACHON ( the Egyptian month which would be May 20th ) further others say it occurred on the 24 th or 25 th day of PARMUTHI ( equal to April 20 or 21 ) "

actually " christmas was unknown to EARLY Christians the DONALIST ( church of Carthage ) ( north africa ) are noted to be celebrating christmas in 336 AD.. documented in a 4th century manuscript so there is a long ROAD in History how different people and different regions formed customs or observances

.. there is no ONE DATE that A SINGLE AUTHORITY DECLARED it and then you have the Protestant reformation ( Germany ) that many cultures had pre- existing celebrations for generations . customs tend MERGE and the ORIGIN becomes blurred

as to reason for the "SEASON" seasons weather do occur so it is documented that HERDERS at the change of season brought their HERDS down from the higher grazing pastures slaughter of animals for WINTER and preserving food supplies

hence having a gathering of people and a celebration or a FEAST a good BBQ ( lol ) as well as an end to the fall harvest.

adding a bit of HUMOR .then there is always FESTIVUS for the rest of us the AIRING of grievances

..then there is establishment of "TRADITIONS" that which binds cultures , displayed in the movie Fiddler on the roof R & S is a sub catagory of SOCIETY & Culture

Christ Jesus was born when humanity open their eyes to reality that they have to help one another in this world to go to next level of life.

    So, think about it.

Well I celebrate Jesus' coming to earth every Christmas and I praise Him during the Christmas service at church, so whatever other reason you think there may be, it does not apply to my Christmas.

Just because people claim that some heathens celebrated something else on Dec 25th does not make the day evil. No one has dibs on any day of the year!

It is true the actual date of the birth of Jesus is unknown, although various clues point to the end of September or the start of October.

So, why celebrate Christmas on December 25th when that is not the date on which he was born? Here are a couple of ideas:

    (1) Originally it was to keep the religious firmly in their place, always obeying the Pope and pouring money into their coffers.

    (2) Today it is to keep the religious and the non-religious propping up businesses by pouring money into their coffers as they bow at the alter of commercialism and consumerism.

However, as a Christian (who does not celebrate the Catholic mass that is December 25) I feel compelled to let you know that in spite of getting the wrong date, Christmas focuses our minds on the birth of our Lord and Saviour and we give thanks (just as the angels did) for his coming into the world. It should be about peace on earth and glad tidings of joy and comfort. Sadly, it has been corrupted into a huge commercial, money-making venture.
