17 y o side-by side Whirlpool refrigerator (with ice and water in door) Sears 04633512 is cycling through defrosting and back to freezing?

Meat stays solid, makes ice (which melts a bit), but frozen waffles and ice cream soften up before refreezing. Any cheap and simple solutions like a thermostat before I order a new fridge? Your answers will help my research. Thanks.

almost all defrosts cycle freezer do exactly that.

Your freezer just is a bit slower at it.

Have you cleaned underneath and made sure the coils are clean of dust?

    Start there first.

Ty for answering. The "bit slower" is a new development and is what bothers me. Yes, I vacuumed the coils when I discovered the problem (and have before, although not regularly and faithfully). Any thoughts on replacing the thermostat?
