We would always use hydrogen peroxide to remove wax from our ears. Have someone drop a half teaspoon of peroxide in your ear. You will hear it bubbling, leave it in until it quits bubbling, turn your head and allow it to run out. Wipe with cotton balls. We were swimmers at the local YMCA and would get terrible ear aches. This would provide the relief from them.

Yes any vegetable oil will work. Cheap cooking oil from a supermarket is as good as any ear drops. In fact it can be better as additives in proprietary ear drops can cause irritation. Keep it in with cotton wool. Don't poke anything in your ears, After a week or so the wax will soften and drain away. If it's compacted you will need to see a doctor for syringing.
