Should there be religious exemptions from security checks?

A woman in Pennsylvania refused to get fingerprinted for religious reasons, then won a case for unemployment compensation.

No! A person should not be exempt from security checks because of their religious beliefs. A person should not be exempt based on a myth. As some of the major risks facing Western countries comes from religion it is vital that religion does not grant exemption from security checks. The article may obviously not give the judge's decision in full and certainly not his reasoning but I do not see how he can class her as exercising her religious freedom. She is not a member of a recognised religion and seems to have some perverse belief based on a personal interpretation of a book in the Bible. It leaves the way open for others to claim that their unique interpretation should enjoy legal privilege. It is not hard to imagine where that may lead.

Absolutely note. The law is the law, obey it or go live with your god. No exemptions at all.

Certainly, as the case you cite demonstrates.

It will of course depend upon the particular circumstances, the immediate need or danger and the possible alternatives.

A good rule of thumb is whether the claimee is aggresively insisting upon a right to something against everybody else, which would be questionable, or whether they are passive and being mistreated personally because of conscience.
