Do a lot of homosexuals marry much older women in order to hide their homosexuality or only a few celebrities do that?

Many years ago it was really common for gay men and lesbians in all walks of life to marry opposite-sex spouses, sometimes to hide their proclivities, but often more due to denial, wishful thinking (that the "problem" would go away), or because that was simply what you did to be an adult and have a home and a family. It's *much* less common these days, although it still goes on in more conservative religious circles.

AFAIK, it's never been common for gay men to specifically marry "older" women, and Hollywood beards are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

These days most homosexuals marry their same sex partner as it's now fine for celebrities to be gay. They get a lot more publicity being gay - especially if they are married to a same sex partner and even more press if they have kids

Someone like Neil Patrick Harris would not be in the press if he married a woman, especially an older one. The reason you see him in gossip magazines and celebrity websites is because he's married to a man and they have kids.
