Are my waters slowly breaking or is it normal?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant with my first. Yesterday I'm sure I started to lose my plug and I've been leaking more discharge which is white and creamy but around it seems to be watery too. It doesn't smell or anything and my discharge has been increasing for a few weeks it's getting very annoying.

Should I phone my midwife or could it just be my discharge?

It is normal for discharge to increase and thin out at the end of pregnancy. That is your body's way of housekeeping. Amniotic fluid smells salty (think ocean) and is clear and basically water. If your discharge is slightly thicker and doesn't really smell, it is likely just normal discharge. However, if you are worried you should always call your midwife or doc and check in.

When your body is ready, and your "waters break", it's a fast gush of amniotic fluid - not a bit of discharge or a trickle of liquid. At 38 weeks, you likely have a few more days to go before you get to experience the breaking waters. You can call up your doctor to confirm, but don't panic and go to hospital until you are actually in labour.
