Black ink in printer is skipping lines?

I have a fairly old HP Deskjet 1000 (J110) 2010 and my problem is that the black ink is skipping lines I have tried dissolving the possible dried ink in the jets with water and more recently alcohol to no avail. There is also the problem of the printer printing in light blue rather than black when both ink cartridges are inserted at the same time. The colored ink works absolutely fine and prints as expected it's only the black ink that has problems, it's faded and skips lines. The alcohol cleared up the faded image, but the lines skipping has not ceased. I've tried it on two different computers and the problem seems to be with the printer or the black ink cartridge.

Is there a solution to this or should I just get a new printer?

If the black ink in the printer is skipping lines, the most probable reason could defective ink or toner cartridge. Remove the ink cartridge from your printer and check if there is any ink clot or dust formed on the contacts. Clean the ink cartridge and install it back. If the ink level is too low, replace the old ink cartridge with a new ink cartridge. Make sure that you use a genuine ink cartridge. Clean the printhead of your printer and try printing again. If none of the above works, service your printer.

    a. Try to print from a different software program and check if the document is printed correctly. If the page prints correctly then the problem might be with the software which should be replaced.

    b. Go to Manage Supplies and click Print Supplies Status. This will give a report on all supply items. Check the report to verify the estimated level of the toner cartridge. Replace the cartridge if the level is lesser than that which is required for quality printing.

    c. Open the ink cartridge access door and examine the cartridge that is used for printing. If it is not Genuine HP cartridge or if it is damaged, then replace the cartridge.

    d. Update your driver and software by downloading the updates. If you unable to update the software, then uninstall and reinstall the software. To increase the performance of your printer regular firmware update is required.

    e. Clean the printhead regularly by navigating to Tools on the printer’s control panel. Try to manually clean the printhead by soaking it in water. If you find an issue after the cleaning process is done then replace the printhead.

    f. Use a lint-free cloth and wipe the electrical contacts found on the black cartridge. Clean the contacts inside the printer as well.

If the cartridge is brand new, and the electrical contacts that connect to the cartridge are clean, then I suspect the driver circuitry has gone bad. No easy fix, sorry. If you will be doing a lot of black-and-white printing, this might be the opportunity to get an inexpensive laser printer on eBay or elsewhere. I got one for less than $50, free shipping.

A ink cartridge or cartridges maybe low, empty or possibly clogged is usually the problem

The printer cannot print correctly if it lacks one of the basic colors

First step is to see will if it print a test page

Go to Start, settings, printers. Right click on the printer, properties, print test page.

If that doesn't work there should be a head cleaning option in properties that will make it clean the print heads.

If the ink cartridge is still clogged, saturate a q-tip with alcohol

and lightly rub the print head

If there is still nothing after that then either it’s badly clogged, low or out of ink, and needs to be replaced

It's because your printer is old. I'm not sure what exactly is happening I know you COULD fix it since I had the same problem and back then I looked it up but it involved taking it apart. I literally had the printer since i can remember that I didn't even know it wasnt normal until I started noticing other people printing without lines on other printers. Your best bet is to finally buy a new one. That's what I had to do.

putting water in it will ruin the ink cartridge....

also ink goes bad if you wait too long...

just buy a new cartridge and it should fix the issue
